Demand that the United Nations
put pressure on Hamas for the immediate release of all of the hostages.
Petition to the United Nations
Based on the universal principles of human rights, and the value and dignity of every human being, we, the undersigned, call upon the Secretary General of the United Nations to immediately demand the release of every hostage that Hamas is holding in Gaza.
The Geneva Convention and its following conventions prohibit the taking of hostages. Under the Statute of the International Criminal Court, the “taking of hostages” constitutes a war crime in both international and non-international armed conflicts.*
Hamas has not only violated international law in kidnapping innocent civilians from 25 nations but has taken the most frail and vulnerable and subjected them to inhumane treatment and suffering. The United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights demands that no human being “shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.” We are outraged by the proof of Hamas' disregard for human life as documented by their own video and social media.
The United Nations MUST act now with all authority, force, and moral clarity to see every one of the hostages in Hamas' control are returned safely to their homes and families.
